Increasingly, bystanders are being asked to intervene in difficult situations, such as noticing and acting upon the “red flags” of potential sexual assault that they might witness. Public service announcements and flyers abound on college campuses, in workplaces and in the military to raise awareness of what constitutes sexual assault. Few programs address teaching people how to communicate to their fraternity brother, shipmate or coworker when they see the red flags. NCRC’s workshop on empowering bystander communication does just this. Weaving in values clarification exercises and specific communication skills development, NCRC’s program gives participants more confidence to react to these situations effectively.
