Is Your Office a Hotbed for Violence?

Experts say communication and employee appreciation are key to diffusing office tensions.  Click here to read an article about recent events and how office conflicts can be resolved.

The Impact of Conflict in the Workplace: Staggering Statistics:

In fact, when surveyed, most employees were able to identify a significant impact on the workplace when conflict is not dealt with effectively. 76% said that they have avoided other co-workers, 14% have pretended to be sick or missed meetings, and up to 12% said they have left the company altogether. Statistics show that the typical manager spends 42% of his or her time dealing with conflict. That's time that is spent AWAY from direct productivity such as strategic planning and business development. If you have the right techniques to address and resolve workplace disputes, these negative effects can be avoided and you can get back to doing the work that you love.

What is The Exchange Training?

NCRC's Exchange Training is a practical, interactive course that presents useful skills for conflict management in a pragmatic fashion. The primary objective of this course is to provide professionals with an understanding of vital skills and strategies for effectively managing workplace conflicts. The Exchange is a structured 4-stage process that gives you new tools for managing effective communication so that creative resolutions can be reached. It helps bring new ideas to old problems. In the Exchange Training, you will learn how to ask the right questions, identify underlying interests, and de-escalate strong emotions. The hope is that these communication tools will give you and your employees, greater confidence in your ability to handle disputes successfully.

Who should take The Exchange?

The Exchange training was specifically developed for managers, supervisors, and HR professionals. However, anyone within a workplace that oversees other employees could benefit from The Exchange Training.

Why take The Exchange?

Learning the Exchange process helps create internal capacity for managers and supervisors to productively reduce conflict and avoid litigation costs. But more than that, the process is designed to also provide tools for ongoing models of positive behavior for the employees who participate. The structure of the exchange is one that leads to accountability and taking responsibility both for the problem and its solution.

Unlike other models, The Exchange Process is based on a collaborative, integrative, bargaining approach where everyone participates. One of the underlying premises is that people who are part of the process have a stake in the outcome. Another is that people not only can, but must make decisions for themselves. As the manager you will help the employees assess what solutions would meet their individual interests, as well as maintain the interests of the company. By working together to understand the facts, the feelings, and the potential solutions, your workplace relationships will be stronger and your "bottom line" improved.
